One of the most awaited events of the year, our Annual Sports Day, was held on the 19th of October at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurgaon. The athletes loved the synthetic 400m track and the students could not have been happier as Dominos made an appearance too. Every student seemed drenched in house spirit and the atmosphere was high on enery and jubilation. Even the less athletically inclined, like myself, had a role to play, as this year student commentators were introduced. Our live sports commentary and unrelenting wisecracks were appreciated by the audience.
The tracks blazed with the sprinting athletes and the stands were abuzz with loud cheering competitive spiritedness. Sports Day 2019 saw unparalleled photography and those who missed the event can relive the day through the Editorial Board’s Aravali Insight on Instagram.
Himgiri edged out Vasundhara by a narrow margin for their 3rd consecutive victory, followed by Sagar and Srishti. Srishti won the march past for the first time after Harish Sai’s Captaincy and Sagar house won all of our hearts with their passion and persistence.
The high point of day was when amidst great fanfare, Anoushka Unni won the Athlete of the Year award ( Senior Girls’ category) for the 11th year in a row ! It was unprecedented and her unparalleled accomplishment was applauded by one and all present there. As her classmates, we sure do look forward to Anoushka Unni making it to the Olympics!
To sum it up, I can only say one thing – you either win or you learn. There are no losers in the world of sports!
