The Round Square Global Conference 2018 was hosted by Welhams Boys’ school and this year, it had a rather unique theme; “Escape the Ordinary”. As the delegation from The Shri Ram School, it made us do precisely that. It was a very interesting experience, what with wearing our uniform with pride, to singing in cultural performances, to the craziness in the dormitories; the experience was unforgettable. Every moment spent was something which added so much to us. We went by train to Dehradun, and were transported to the school. Sleeping in the dormitories was itself an experience- sleeping with about 45 strangers in the same room is not a very easy task! We formed strong ties in the process, exploring different cultures and people. We heard speeches of Mrs. Dia Mirza, awarded the title of Ms. Asia, 2000. Her humble personality and unique thoughts inspired us to reach out of our comfort zone. We also heard from Dr.Anand Gokani, a prominent diabetologist. He spoke about the zeal and passion one must require to achieve the extraordinary. We had Barraza sessions, which were informal discussions in smaller groups where one could without fear put forth perspectives and opinions. With adventure activities, social service projects, a monastery visit, bird watching, a comedy show and formal events, the experience was very well-rounded. A trip to Rishikesh for a tribute to Ganga and India’s rivers enriched the experience. The experience has etched itself into our hearts, staying there as a precious memory.
